Gáldar es un municipio situado al noroeste de la isla de Gran Canaria, lindando con Agaete, Artenara y Santa María de Guía de Gran Canaria. En este municipio se encuentra uno de los yacimientos arqueológicos más representativos de los que existen en Canarias, la Cueva Pintada, que exhibe una valiosa muestra del arte realizado por los antiguos indígenas canarios.

Su distancia de la capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, se ha visto reducida considerablemente, en las últimas décadas con la mejora de las infraestructuras viarias.

La economía de Gáldar depende en buena medida de los cultivos de plátano que salpican su territorio. A ello hay que añadir una cierta actividad comercial.
